GTA 6 story letters and clues — what the series suggests

Updated 2026-11-03

Collectibles you read

Most collectibles are about finding things. A few are about what those things say. GTA V had 50 letter scraps scattered around its map, and finding them was only half the point. Reading them was the other half.

That kind of collectible works differently. The reward isn't just a number going up. It's a bit of story you wouldn't have seen otherwise.

What's known for GTA VI

Rockstar has not announced letters, notes or any other collectible for GTA VI. We have a letters and notes category because GTA V made the idea familiar, and a mystery items category for anything odd that doesn't fit elsewhere. Neither is based on anything confirmed.

Our guess

Based on series history, and only a guess:

  • If GTA VI has story collectibles, they may tell a side story rather than add to the main plot.
  • Some may make more sense read in order, or only once you have all of them.
  • A few might be tied to places or events you only reach later in the game.

Why these need extra care

Story collectibles come with a problem other categories don't have. Their content is a spoiler. A marker for a stunt jump tells you where a ramp is. A marker for a letter can give away part of a story if it shows too much.

When we add these markers, we plan to keep what's written on them out of marker titles. The location is what you need from the map. The words are yours to read in the game.

How to hunt them well

  1. Note where each one came from. If pieces fit together, knowing the order you found them in, and where, can help you make sense of them.
  2. Read them when you find them. It's tempting to grab everything and read later. In the moment, with the location around you, they often land better.
  3. Don't rush the last few. If a story builds toward something, the final pieces are the payoff. Save some patience for them.
  4. Be careful with missable ones. We don't know if GTA VI has any collectibles you can miss permanently. If players report that a letter or clue can be missed, we'll flag it as clearly as we can.
  5. Turn off the layer if you'd rather explore. On the map, you can hide letters and notes and look on your own, then turn it back on when you're stuck.

Spoilers on the forum

If you find a letter or clue, post its location on the Finds board of the forum with a map link. Please keep the content out of your thread title and describe where it is rather than what it says. Other players browsing the board will thank you.

Moderators confirm finds before they become markers. Until we've seen a find ourselves it shows as "reported," and once we have, it becomes "verified" with our own screenshot.

Before launch

GTA VI releases on 19 November 2026, and there are no locations on the map before then. Your progress across every category will be on the checklist once markers start arriving.
