GTA 6 side missions: how many are there, and will Strangers return?

Rockstar hasn't said how many side missions GTA VI has, or whether anything like Strangers and Freaks returns. Any number you see now is a guess.
What's been shown
The August 2026 extended look showed plenty to do outside the main story, including scuba diving, fishing, racing, pool halls and mini golf. Our sister site lists every activity in the extended look.
Rockstar has also introduced a big cast, among them Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest and Real Dimez. That doesn't prove they'll have side missions, but it's the kind of cast that could.
How it worked in GTA 5
GTA 5's Strangers and Freaks missions started when you met characters marked on the map. Random events also appeared as you drove past, and many of those counted toward 100%. That's why we track strangers and side characters as a category.
How we'll handle it at launch
Once the game is out, we'll add each one to the map as we find it, marked with who starts it and where. If you meet someone first, copy the map link and post it on the Finds board.
